Where to stay in Cologne
Considered by many to be the cultural hub of Germany's northwest , the city of Cologne was rebuilt following the bombings of the Second World War and is today an intriguing blend of German modernity and the Gothic flavor of its surviving old town.
Germany's oldest City Hall is worth a visit thanks to its 15th century Gothic tower studded with 130 statues, while the Cathedral itself and its twin spires, gargoyles and graphic glass window is on the itinerary of every Cologne tourist. The city's Chocolate Museum is a different way to idle away a few hours as is a visit to Museum Ludwig, which holds a number of well-known Picasso and Andy Warhol pieces.
For those looking to discover more of the city, it's best to stick to walking or take a taxi as the tram and metro stations are only really useful if you are based a long way outside of the center. If you're looking to travel further afield, you could also consider renting a car in Cologne.
